On Saturday, August 29, several members of the NC United FC family had the opportunity to experience soccer from a very different perspective — not from the field or the sideline, but from right in the middle of a passionate traveling supporters group.
Thanks to an invitation from the South Charlotte supporters of Charlotte FC, our group joined the buses traveling from Charlotte to Atlanta for the MLS match between Charlotte FC and Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
And from the moment the buses departed, it became clear that this was going to be much more than simply attending a soccer match.
The journey brought together hundreds of Charlotte FC supporters traveling south with one purpose: to make their presence felt and support their team away from home. NC United FC members became part of that traveling community, sharing the excitement, chants, conversations and anticipation that built throughout the trip.
Becoming Part of Something Bigger
For our members, one of the most meaningful parts of the experience was seeing how quickly individual supporters, families and smaller groups became part of something much larger.
We began the day as a small group from NC United FC, but through the invitation and hospitality of South Charlotte, we were welcomed into a much broader community of supporters traveling together behind Charlotte FC.
It was an opportunity to experience firsthand how a shared love for the game can bring people from different backgrounds together around a club, a city and a common purpose.
STATS Brewpub — Welcomed in Atlanta
Once in Atlanta, the experience continued at STATS Brewpub, where a special gathering welcomed Charlotte FC supporters before the match.
It was another opportunity to connect, share the excitement of the day and enjoy the community surrounding the game before everyone began making their way toward Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
For our NC United members, the experience reinforced something important: soccer culture isn't created only inside a stadium. It grows through relationships, shared experiences and the sense of belonging that develops around the game.
A Black & Blue Wave Through Atlanta
Then came one of the most memorable moments of the entire trip.
Hundreds of supporters came together and began the walk toward Mercedes-Benz Stadium. What started as groups arriving on buses became one massive Black & Blue Wave moving through the streets of Atlanta — singing, chanting and proudly supporting Charlotte FC.
Approximately 600 traveling supporters were part of the overall Charlotte presence that day, creating an atmosphere that was impossible to miss.
The chants, the colors and the energy carried a common message: this was a group proud to wear the Black & Blue and determined to make Charlotte's presence felt away from home.
For our NC United members, being inside that group provided a powerful reminder of something we often talk about within our own club:
Soccer is bigger than what happens during 90 minutes on the field.
A club can create community. It can create belonging. And when people genuinely believe in the team they support, their energy can travel with the players wherever they go.

The atmosphere would have made the trip memorable regardless of the result.
But Charlotte FC gave its traveling supporters even more to celebrate.
Charlotte FC took the lead in the first half and doubled the advantage shortly after halftime. Even with additional opportunities left unfinished, Charlotte controlled the result and ultimately left Atlanta with a convincing 2–0 victory.
For hundreds of supporters who had spent the day traveling together, the final whistle was the perfect ending.

And then the Black & Blue Wave headed home.

The Black & Blue Wave had made its presence felt — and Charlotte FC gave its traveling supporters the perfect result to bring home.
An Experience Worth Bringing Back
For the NC United FC members who participated, the trip offered something we hope extends beyond the memories and photographs.
Our players and members were able to see what happens when people feel connected to a club — when they don't simply watch a team, but belong to its community.
NC United FC is building its own story on a very different scale. But experiences like this give our members an opportunity to see the culture surrounding the game at another level and bring some of that enthusiasm, unity and sense of belonging back to our own club.
For one Saturday, we weren't playing.
We were supporters.
We were part of the Black & Blue Wave.
And we were reminded once again why this game can bring people together.
